Herpes

The herpes virus causes blisters on your lips, penis or anus. The blisters are often sensitive or even painful. After some time, they will disappear again. Nevertheless, the virus stays in your body, so the blisters can return any time your immune system is under pressure, for example when you are ill, when you have had too little sleep or when you are feeling stressed. Many men carry the herpes virus in them without having any symptoms of it.

Symptoms of herpes

There are two varieties of herpes: one affects the area around your mouth (cold sores) and the other affects your penis or anus (genital herpes). The first symptoms can appear anywhere from two to twelve days after infection. At first there will be a tingling feeling on or around your lips, penis or anus. After that, red spots will appear and you will ultimately get painful blisters filled with a clear liquid. Especially the first time they appear, herpes sores can be quite painful. After that, they will normally be less severe. Herpes attacks can be more powerful and more painful if you have HIV, however.

Treatment of herpes

There is no treatment that can cure you of the virus that causes herpes. You can use an ointment or medication to prevent the blisters from appearing so often or to help make a current attack of herpes less severe. You can buy the ointment over the counter at any chemist / drugstore or pharmacy. For the medications, you will need a prescription from your doctor.

Transmission of herpes

The visible herpes blisters are highly contagious. But even if you have no visible symptoms, you can still pass herpes on to others. You can get herpes through kissing, giving or getting blow jobs and fucking.
Unfortunately, condoms do not provide complete protection against herpes. Condoms don't always cover the places that are infected with the herpes virus, but also fluid from inside a herpes blister could get on the outside of the condom. It is also possible to transmit herpes to other parts of your own or someone else's body by means of your fingers, for example from a lip to a penis, and vice versa. Do you have a cold sore? If so, wait at least a week until the blisters have disappeared before you give someone a blow job or rim him. Otherwise you could transmit your herpes to his penis or anus. Remember that cold sores or herpes blisters are highly contagious.

Testing for herpes

Do you think you have herpes blisters? Simply on the basis of what you describe and by looking at your body, a doctor can determine whether or not you have herpes. There is no need for testing in a laboratory.
