Urethritis is an inflammation of the urethra (the narrow tube through which urine and sperm exit your body). The inflammation can be caused by gonorrhea or chlamydia, among other kinds of infections. A treatment with antibiotics will heal urethritis quickly and effectively.

Symptoms of urethritis

The symptoms of urethritis are usually mild. In the morning you are likely to see a bit of runny discharge coming out of your penis, and your urethra may feel irritated or painful when you pee. The symptoms appear one to three weeks after infection, depending on the cause. Sometimes the symptoms will go away on their own.

Treatment of urethritis

Urethritis normally heals quickly after a short course of treatment with antibiotics. After having been treated, you will not become immune to urethritis, however. That means that you could always get another infection that will cause urethritis.

Transmission of urethritis

Any time you receive a blow job or fuck someone without a condom, bacteria can enter into your urethra. Rough sex, using sex toys and excessive and hard masturbating can also make your mucous membranes more vulnerable to infections with otherwise harmless bacteria.

Testing for urethritis

A urine test can determine whether or not your urethra has become inflamed. If so, another test will determine whether the infection concerns chlamydia or gonorrhea. Any time you have symptoms of urethritis, always get tested for STIs to make sure that you are not carrying around an STI.
